The cottage is located in the village of Dugort in the north of Achill Island in County Mayo and is connected to the mainland by a bridge. It is a semi-detached two-storey cottage on a hill overlooking the sea. Our cottage is named after a heather that blooms in the vast peat bogs on the island.
The German writer Heinrich Böll and his family spent their Summer holidays in Dugort for decades. Large parts of his famous “Irish Diary” were written there. And even today, the Böll Cottage is made available for writers to use.
The house/cottage is fully-furnished and has two double bedrooms, a single bedroom, a living room and a kitchen. There is an information leaflet in the cottage with instructions about the various appliances and some general information about the cottage and the area. Prices vary according to the seasons.
We recommend to bring or rent a car.
